Emile Balland Sancerre Blanc Croq'caillotte

         Out of stock

This tiny 6.5 hectare domaine in the Loire was started by Emile Balland in 1999.  The Ballands have been making wines in the Loire since 1650 and his father was instrumental in achieving recognition for the young AOC Coteaux du Giennois in the 1980s.  Emile has just one hectare of Sancerre and his Cuvée Croq'Caillotte comes from the steep, south facing slopes of the Amigny area of Sancerre and is one of those rare wines that hugely over-deliver on quailty.  All the vines here are pre-phylloxera too!

Measuring just 0.88 hectares in size and containing pre-phylloxera vines, this is one amazing vineyard! Emile Balland has captured the essence of Sancerre here, classic flinty minerality, crisp zesy citrus and grassy notes.

Aromatic yet delicate on the nose, green fruit notes of apple come through alongside aromas of fresh cut grass and wet stone.  The grassiness continues on the palate but is joined by citrus peel notes and crisp lemon.  Classic flinty minerality follows up the fruits with a great acidity and balance.
