Château Grand Mauvinon, St Emilion 

Vineyard

The vineyard belongs to the famous appellation area Saint-Emilion, located at 40 km from Bordeaux, for a superficy of 6500 hectares on the right bank of Garonne. 

The vineyard extends on 6,5 hectares, close to the cellar and the family property. 

Soils are made of clay and gravel. Those kind of soils are keeping the vines at cool temperature during warm summers and are providing a constant source of water. 

On average, the vines are 35 years old. Planted every year, the density is reaching 5500 vines per hectare.

Viticulture

At Château Mauvinon, the work made on the vineyard is close to gardening. Every single vine is observed, cared for, shaped, so the grapes can be at perfect maturity for October. 

To do so, grassing is made naturally, leaf thinning is moderate at East and West, green harvests allow us to get perfectly sound grapes. 

In love with the Earth, the family naturally looked at organic agriculture, and began the conversion in 2017. Backed up by biodynamics methods, viticulture is carried out in such a way as to understand and respect the plant to help it produce the best.

Harvest

During the 15 days before harvesting, grapes are tasted to have an idea of their maturity – Even if all the elements seem to indicate that grapes are ready, tasting is the key to make sure the maturity is complete.  

Once grapes are perfectly ripped, they are hand-picked by a team of professionals, then settled in a small boxes. This process is done in just a few hours. A first manual sorting is carried out in the cellar for the grapes stems to be removed. Each grape is then automatically sorted according to its weight. The crushed berries are then put into the tanks. 

“Grapes whose destiny is to be part of the Gabriel Lauzat vintage are harvested by night, by people equipped with headlamp. Bottling Notes

Tribaudeau family is producing 2 different vintages, both of them Saint Emilion Grand Cru: Château Mauvinon and Gabriel Lauzat. While Mauvinon is a fruitier and elegant wine, Lauzat presents great concentration and the balance between the wine and the barrel dominates. Those wine expresses differently and additionally the terroir of Mauvinon. Both of the vintages are warm wines, just like those who make them.

Tasting notes

Young vintages are very fruity and fresh(raspberry and blackcurrant thanks to Merlot harvested at a perfect ripeness) Thanks to aging, leather and undergrowth appair. Tannins are mellow, the mouth is ropy

It must be served between 16º et 18º,Preferred dishes for Mauvinont : Entrecôte and cheese (Brie de meaux,sheep cheese)
