Agricola Marrone, Barolo Pichemej DOCG
The Estate
A blend of territories: Monforte d’Alba which has clayey marls with a high percentage of sand and La Morra with tortonian soil and more compact cal-alcerous marl soil mixed with sand, rich in magnesium and manganese re-sulting in more perfumed, gentle, softer wines. The softness of La Morra is blended with the potent tannins, structure, and full body of Monforte. The latter is more laydown/wait and has extreme longevity; it is full richness in the mouth.
Winemaking
Selection in the vineyard and selection during light crushing removed the berries that are not perfectly healthy and ripe. Fermentation with macera-tion in contact with the skins at 30° C for 30 days. Malolactic fermentation in large barrels of 30 Hl and 30 months of ageing in wood. Batonnage on fine lees for the first 10 months. Bottling under nitrogen cov-erage and bottle storage for a minimum of 6 months in a controlled temper-ature environment.
Tasting Note and Food Pairing
Mature ruby red colour. The nose offers some wood, dry spices, fresh red fruit, cherry liqueur and tar. The palate is fairly dense, with a youthful tex-ture, a tannic bite, red fruit, good grip and length, deserving another few years of ageing. Best with strong and rich food, meat, game, strong cheeses.
