Astral de Chateau Puybarbe
Astral de Chateau Puybarbe
Bottle notes
Chateau Puybarbe produces well-balanced wines that express their terroir mixing tradition and modernity. The vineyards are all owned and managed by Anna and Riku, who farm sustainably without the use of harmful herbicides or pesticides, with an average age of around 30 years.
Château Puybarbe is in the heart of the appellation of “Côtes de Bourg”. Three parallel lines of hills, along the Gironde estuary (just opposite the Margaux appellation in Médoc) gave this wine region its nick name of “Small Switzerland of Bordeaux”.
A blend of 88% Merlot 12% Cabernet Sauvignon with small proportions of Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Aged for 11 months with French oak staves.
Tasting notes
Ripe bramble and cassis on the nose combined with some mint as well as vanilla and spice from the oak-aging. Delicious full-bodied wine with abundant fruit and soft acidity, grippy tannins. There’s complexity of aromas and taste that will improve by decanting for a couple of hours.
Try this with a Sunday roast.
