Celler Alimara La Xispa Seleccio

Bottle notes

On the nose, ripe fig and dark fruits dominate with a touch of cedar. The palate is round and full, with smooth tannins and ripe, but not jammy fruit. It shows great concentration, leading to a sustained finish showing graphite and funky spice.

This stunning wine is only made in special years from a selection of the best Carignan and Grenache barrels. It is a very limited release of only 2000 bottles, and is keenly priced for its quality.

The specially selected Carignan grapes are from 40 year old vines at Mas de Cabrera and La Cendrosa near Gandesa, Terra Alta. The Grenache (Garnatxa Negre) is from 30 year old vines at Mas de Cabrera.

Both grape varieties were hand-picked separately before undergoing a 5 day cold soak. Individual fermentations followed at up to 24°C in stainless steel, with regular punchdowns. Malolactic fermentation and 9 months maturation were carried out in 300 litre French oak barrels (20% of which were new). This wine is only made in great years, and is blended from the best wines and barrels of the vintage. It is bottled unfiltered.

As well as the traditional ‘steak frites’, roasts and BBQ meats, it also pairs well with hearty casseroles, mushroom dishes, and strong cheeses.
