Domaine d’Audaux Petit Manseng Sec
This wine comes from the Jurancon in south west France. This is a region which specialises in dry, medium sweet and sweet wines from the Manseng grape variety. They are quite unique, they tend to be fruit driven, with a zesty spine, and honeyed notes. They are interesting wines and very food friendly, and can, if stored correctly last for many years.
Some wines are made from a blend of Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng, this one highlights just the Petit Manseng, which is the more concentrated out of the two. It is made by two founder members of the Vindependents, who reside in France, and this is their first commercial vintage, I believe. The wine is made from fruit bought from two trusted producers, but is not allowed to be called Jurancon as it was bottled just outside the permitted region.
The fruit is super concentrated, with piercing citrus flavours, but it also has texture and richness, having been fermented in old white Bordeaux barrels. This is a very interesting wine, it is tight and precise, and will develop with time in the bottle. We found it matched really well with Thai food.
