Domaine de la Madone Beaujolais Blanc 'Vers le Bois'
Bottle notes
Domaine de La Madone has been in the hands of the same family, the Bererds, for over five centuries. We are located in the small village of Le Perréon, not far from the hills of Brouilly, in the heart of Beaujolais. Over the centuries, the estate has grown, thanks to the hard work of several generations; over the past 25 years, the estate has expanded to 28 hectares, with an average production of 160,000 bottles.
The vineyard is divided into 90 plots, with varying exposures and altitudes. The vines are between 15 and 100 years old—the average is 40—and between the rows are mainly Gamay and Chardonnay. Part of the crop, approximately 2.5 hectares, is now entirely converted to organic farming, while the rest is managed using sustainable viticulture methods. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the first selection is made directly in the vineyard, followed by another selection in the cellar. Here, yeasts are used sparingly, and recent investments by the owners have led to a technologically advanced environment, where modern techniques alternate with ancestral traditions, with a blend that guarantees the projection of ancient knowledge into the future. Today, the Berards produce three labels: two Beaujolais—the "Perrèon" and the "Jean Baptiste Bererd"—and a white Burgundy. Burgundy, with its wines, has always been a target for the Bererd family, through creations that identify with their terroir of origin and are both profound and pleasant to drink. A domain worth discovering, therefore, which looks to the coming years with the desire for "sustainable" development to further enhance the quality of its products.
