Domaine La Font De Notre Dame, Rasteau
DOMAINE LA FONT DE NOTRE DAME RASTEAU
Elevated to 'Cru' status in 2010, Rasteau’s vineyards are relatively sheltered from the Mistral wind. The south-facing vineyards enjoy over 2800 sunshine hours a year, meaning that the warm and dry Mediterranean climate makes it home to some of the most intense and spiciest reds in the South. At the heart of the Domaine, is a small fountain that was once a place of pilgrimage for the Provençale people in the Middle Ages, who believed its waters could protect them from the Black Death. The winery maintains its rustic charm and uses eight traditional concrete 20hl vats. Made of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and a hint of Cinsault, this wine is fermented in traditional concrete vats, followed by 12 months maturation in French oak barrels.
A rich and complex wine, the palate is brimming with ripe red summer fruits from the Grenache, the Syrah brings a touch of peppery spice, and Mourvèdre brings a savoury herbal twist. Rich and chunky yet with a freshness that makes it immediately appealing loves roasted meats, and quality BBQs.
