    Bottle notes

A lovely gift pack for port lovers - three 5cl bottles of Fonseca port - Siroco, Bin 27 and LBV in a wooden case with sliding lid.

    Fonseca Siroco

A superb balance of ripe fruit, delicate acidity and elegant notes of wood aging. Full and fruity on the palate with a lingering finish.

First introduced in the 1950s and named after the warm wind which blows over the Mediterranean from North Africa, Siroco is a blend of classic white Port grape varieties grown on the cooler, higher vineyards of the Douro Valley. To achieve its crisp dry finish, the wine is allowed to ferment for longer than other styles of Port before it is fortified. Ageing in small oak vats gives Siroco its smoothness as well as its attractive ripe fruit flavours and delicate nuttiness.

Fonseca Siroco is traditionally enjoyed as an aperitif, served chilled in a wine glass. It can also be poured over ice in a high ball glass and topped with tonic water and a fresh mint leaf or a slice of lemon.

    Fonseca Bin 27

Displaying an intense rich fruity nose of blackberry, cassis, cherry and plums, interwoven with notes of spice. The palate is full bodied and round, with a smooth velvety texture and mouth filling tannins.

Launched in Britain nearly 50 years ago in 1972, Fonseca Bin 27 continues to be blended from selected reserve Ports chosen for their smooth, round, full bodied palate and their fine, intense fruit character. The wines are matured in large seasoned oak vats to give them smoothness and complexity while retaining their intense and vibrant fruit character. Blended for consistency and quintessentially Fonseca in style, Bin 27 is bottled when ready to drink.

Fonseca Bin 27 pairs beautifully with desserts, dark chocolate and berry fruit. It all works splendidly with the full flavour and rich creaminess of cheeses such as Camembert or Vacherin Mont D’Or.

    Fonseca LBV

Aromas of raspberry and strawberry on the nose, opening up to herbaceous and spicy inflexions. Round and full bodied, with a velvety texture, the palate is supported by dense black fruits with notes of cedar. Youthful and intense.

LBV was developed as an alternative to Vintage Port for more relaxed and informal occasions. Like Vintage, LBV is a very high-quality Port from a single year. LBV Unfiltered is aged in large wooden vats and then drawn off into bottle with no fining or filtration after four to six years. The result is a naturally expressive wine which has sacrificed none of its depth and fullness of flavour. Late Bottled Vintage is bottled when ready to drink. A limited quantity of this outstanding blend was produced.

Fonseca LBV is the perfect finish to any meal. Excellent with fully flavoured cheeses, especially blue cheeses such as Brie de Meaux or Roquefort. It is delicious with desserts made with chocolate or berry fruits.

Fonseca was founded in 1815 and is regarded as one of the most stylistically consistent of the classic Vintage Port Houses. Vintage Port runs like a continuous thread through Fonseca’s history, from the legendary Fonseca 1840 to the superb, declared vintages of the present day, their consistency deriving not only from continuity of family involvement and the knowledge and skill passed down from one generation to the next, but also a close link with the vineyard.

Starting with the purchase of 32 pipes of Port by the founder, João dos Santos Fonseca, Fonseca is a story of four eminent families. The Fonsecas and the Monteiros, who originally established the business, the Guimaraens who built the firm’s reputation as a ‘First Growth’ vintage Port producer and the Yeatmans and their successors who steered the company into its third century.

Fonseca’s three estates, Panascal, Cruzeiro and Santo António, with their distinctive terroirs, have a key role in defining the unmistakable character of the Fonseca ports. Fonseca also became a pioneer of organic and sustainable viticulture, helping to conserve the unique ecosystem and landscape of the valley for future generations.
