Containing some of the higher, cooler vineyard sites in the state, the Central Ranges is an important, recently designated wine-growing zone. It is sometimes better known for the regions it comprises: running north to south along the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range (and in descending order of size): Mudgee, Orange and Cowra.
The winemaker's art of blending comes to the fore here, with the two key red Bordeaux varieties, Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) combining to deliver generous red fruits, rounded tannins and a pleasing finish. Traditional red wine vinification in stainless steel tanks in order to retain as much fruit flavour profile as possible.
