Table 1: Langham English Sparkling

1. Langham Corralion NV, Dorset, England

Corallian is a Chardonnay-dominant blend,  It seeks to highlight a linear oceanic salinity and bright fruit character in Chardonnay grown on the chalk of this part of England.

Culver is a Pinot Noir dominant blend. It shows the power and richness of its two red varieties, with an opulence and depth that helps it to pair wonderfully with food.

3. Langham Blanc de Blancs, Dorset, England

Blanc de Blancs is 100% Chardonnay, grown on the chalk soils of rural Dorset. From the most ripe and rich parcels of Chardonnay, often from a higher proportion of oak barrels and ageing for longer during secondary fermentation.

Light, clean and bright with a lovely floral nose and notes of ripe peach and almond. The wine shows excellent depth on the palate and a lovely balance between ripe, aromatic fruit and fresh, zingy acidity.

A musky fusion of sweet scented fruits - nectarines, peaches and nashi pears with a dash of orange zest - intermingled with a floral perfume reminiscent of star jasmine and citrus blossom. A generous palate with citrus and cassis flavours, deliciously ripe and succulent, finishing with that classic Marlborough zing.

6. Vesevo, Campania Falanghina, Campania, Italy

Low temperature fermentation has retained the fresh, crisp and aromatic quality of the wine whilst still allowing its character to shine through. Perfumes of white flowers and white melon with mineral notes provide a backdrop to the full, ripe palate, and lift the finish. An elegant wine, with a llingering touch of honey.

7. Domainede Castelnau Garenne Syrah, Languedoc, France

A blend of 80% Cinsault and 20% Syrah, the Rosé is characterised by lively acidity and delicate wild strawberry and citrus notes. The Syrah is destemmed and gently crushed before fermentation and a three-week maceration in stainless steel. The resulting wine is defined by bright black fruit with hints of liquorice and pepper, balanced by a lifted acidity and ripe, supple tannins.

8. Tannat, Bodega Garzón Reserve, Maldonado, Uruguay

Deep purple in colour, with aromas of plums and raspberries and just a hint of spice. On the palate, this is a full-bodied wine, with mature tannins complementing the dark juicy fruit and mineral notes. Striking and powerful.

9. Lama di Pietra Nero di Troia, Pugliam Italy

Ruby in colour with violet reflections. Red fruit aromatics of mulberry and cherry give way to a soft palate with delicate tannins. Persistent, full-bodied and elegant, this Nero di Troia is perfectly balanced.

10. Chambers Rutherglen Muscat, Australia 375ml

The Rutherglen Muscat is typically tawny red in colour with aromas of rose petals, raisins and dried fruit. These characters carry through to the palate, balanced with fresh acidity and the strength of its alcohol content. The resulting wine is unctuous and rich yet zesty and balanced.

11. Curatolo Marsala Superiore Dolce, Sicily, Italy

Curatolo Marsala Superiore Dolce, Sicily, ItalyDark amber in colour, with aromas of dried figs, sultanas and caramel.ÿ This wine is round and soft on the palate with fresh notes of dried fruit, nuts and honeysuckle with a pleasant, sweet and clean finish.

The grapes were hand picked separately then chilled to 4°C, before passing over a selection table, destemming, crushing and gentle pressing. These musts were held cold for 2 days then the clear juice racked off for a controlled fermentation in stainless steel at 18°C. The wines were blended together in December.

The grapes come from 30 year old vines grown at 420m overlook- ing Vall Major in Batea and from 25-35 year old vines grown at 410m at Mas de Cabrera in Gandesa. Both areas are dominated by poor limestone soils. The Gandesa grapes were picked earliest on the 7th September, with the Batea grapes a few days later, giving a nice range of freshness and ripeness between the two sites.

14. Celler Alimara AmbPells Brisat, Terra Alta, Spain

Wild fermented Garnacha Blanca, with a whopping 50 days on the skins in concrete and stainless steel. Bottled unfiltered. Surprisingly, there’s not a lot of colour here – just a slight green gold tinge. The nose gives some clues to the skin contact though – there’s more of the Mediterranean herbs and dried apricot than with the other white wines from this estate. There’s white peach, papaya and a slightly starchy quality which I enjoy. It’s all stitched together with earthy dried herb notes and makes for a very satisfying drop.

15. Celler Alimara Llumí Rosat, Terra Alta, Spain

Stewed strawberry with hints of Valencian orange and candied fruits. This wine is excellent as an aperitif, or served with grilled chicken, crab salad, or grilled tuna. Or it would make an interesting pairing with sushi and vegetable dishes such as ratatouille.

16. Celler Alimara Pinzellada Ooo, Terra Alta, Spain

This deeply coloured rosat wine is similar in style to a clarete but made solely from 100% Tempranillo. Showing ripe red fruits, the wine is held together with a little bit of tannin and the structure from the oak aging. Fresh acidity helps to deliver the balance and length typical of this style.

17. Celler Alimara Llumí Negre, Terra Alta, Spain

This wine is 68% Syrah, 17% Tempranillo and 15% Carignan. On the nose, there are hints of raspberry and graphite. The palate is dominated by red fruits, with a slight spice and liqourice undertone.

18. Celler Alimara El Senyal Negre, Terra Alta, Spain

Very floral nose full of lifted ripe strawberries and vanilla fudge with a blackcurrant hint. The palate is all red fruits with plums and strawberries to the fore. Mouth-filling but smooth and approach- able rather than tannic.

19. Celler Alimara La Xispa, Terra Alta, Spain

On the nose, ripe fig and dark fruits dominate with a touch of cedar. The palate is round and full, with smooth tannins and ripe, but not jammy fruit. It shows great concentration, leading to a sustained finish showing graphite and funky spice. This stunning wine is only made in special years from a selection of the best Carignan and Grenache barrels. It is a very limited release of only 2000 bottles, and is keenly priced for its quality.
